Dr. Valerie Bullock has been an anchoring influence early in my adult life, and I’m sure several others can say the same. Throughout the years, what started as a guiding presence has now grown into a mentor, teacher, leader, and friend. Much of my thirst for adventure and the search for new things came from these years with Valerie peering around the corner gently pushing me along. Perhaps this is why music became both of our paths. It is the language that can only be experienced to fully understand it. It gives us a way to express feelings about the beauty and troubles of the world. After many years I finally got to sit down with this mentor and friend of mine who, like music, cultivates life in ways we still have yet to imagine.
